It is native to the forests and grassy lands of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. It has distinctive leathery leaves with thorns along the edges, yellow-green flowers and orange color fruits. The first people who started using this plant were Indians of the Guarani tribe, primarily for the treatment of indigestion and stomach ulcers, badly healing wounds, rashes and other skin eruptions. Later on scientific research confirmed other effects, e.g. anticancer, tonifying, antirheumatic, hormonal, and rejuvenating.

Contraindications: Not designed for children under age 3, pregnant and nursing women.
