Lapacho or yellow lapacho is a herbal tea made from the inner bark of the tree Tabebuia serratifolia that is native to the Amazonian areas of South America.

South American indigenous people used this tea as a treatment for various types of inflammation, internal and external. Thanks to its antibiotic effect it can be used in the treatment of bacteria and fungi. Many experts talk about its supportive effects in the treatment of cancer, including leukemia. It has positive influence on a human body after chemotherapy and/or long-term use of psychiatric drugs.

(Tabebuia serratifolia)

In the tropical rainforests of Central America grows a tall tree with smooth bark and tubular flowers. Local indigenous tribes have known healing and medicinal effects of this tree for ages. Some tribes called the Lapacho tree "Tajy," meaning "to have strength and vigor," or simply, "The Divine Tree." Modern history of Lapacho dates back to 1884 when its most important substance was isolated and later its effects tested in the treatment of various forms of cancer. The first reports were so astounding that Brazil government imposed a blackout on any public statements regarding any clinical research of Lapacho. This blackout was broken only in 1981 and since then the interest in this tree is ever-growing all over the world.

Origin: Peru, Coronel Portillo province

Part of the plant used: inner bark

Use in the following conditions:

  •     inflammatory diseases (viruses, bacteria, fungi)

  •     liver disorders
  •     CNS diseases
  •     various forms of cancer
  •     skin and gynecological disorders.

Preparation and dosage: 4 full teaspoons per 1 liter of boiling water. Boil for 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and let infuse for 15-20 minutes. Drink it either hot or cold. Drink 1 liter of infusion in the course of the day, preferably between the meals. We recommend to make one-week break after 2-3 weeks of application.

Effects: Lapacho shows immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, pain alleviating and anticancer effects. The bark contains naphtaquinones and anthraquinones; these two substances rarely occur together in the same plant. It is considered that remarkable medicinal properties are due to a synergic effect of the aforementioned substances. The most naphtaquinone is lapachol which shows strong anticancer effect. Infusion further contains flavonoids with antioxidative effect, vitamins (B, C, provitamin A), minerals (calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium), and trace elements (silicon, tin, and manganese).

Contraindications: do not use in pregnancy, when suffering from low blood pressure and cardiac insufficiency, diarrheal and febrile diseases. Not suitable for children under age 3.
